Celebrating Pride as Part of our Continuing Commitment to Diversity, Inclusion, Equality, and Respect for all People

Rising from the ashes of the Stonewall rebellion in New York City in 1969, Pride month was officially recognized in the U.S. thirty years after the uprising by former President Bill Clinton, who proclaimed June as the month of commemoration.Pride month is dedicated to providing visible support for all LGBTQIA+ people through celebration, solidarity, activism, and reflection while highlighting the ongoing fight for equality, dignity, and respect for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersexual, and asexual people.Diversity, inclusion, equality, and respect for all people are at the heart of who we are and the foundation of our beauty brand. We believe that the beauty space has unrivaled potential to change the conversation regarding LGBTQIA+ people by providing the freedom and tools to lay bare out innermost selves. There are a host of LGBTQIA+ supporters who are contributing to shifting the dialog and general perspective of the LGBTQIA+ community, striving for the acceptance and respect of all people regardless of their gender identity, sexual orientation, lifestyle choices, or anything else that critics deem “different”. Here, we give a major shout-out to a few of the many people who are helping to build the future we’re rooting for.NICOLE MAINES is an American actress, writer, and transgender rights activist. By age three, Nicole was sure she was a girl in a boy’s body and verbalized that fact to her parents. Nicole’s first introduction to activism was when Nicole’s parents filed and won a lawsuit against her high school regarding bathroom access. Nicole has contributed to the discourse on the transgender experience through her acting career and by allowing her transition to be chronicled in Amy Ellis Nutt’s book “The Transformation of an American Family”. Nicole is also the first person to portray a transgender superhero on TV, in her role as Nia Nal on the CW superhero series Supergirl. Now twenty-six, Nicole is continuing her successful acting career and support of the LGBTQIA+ community.HARRY STYLES is a prominent, award-winning musician and actor who is well-known for his gender nonconforming fashion choices. As the first man to make a solo appearance on the cover of Vogue Magazine, Harry has ignored societal gender and style standards in deference to who he is at any given time or place, which has changed the way people think about masculinity and speaks volumes for the support of freedom of expression by example.Styles supports various charitable organizations, including many that represent the LGBTQIA+ population. He promotes his message of love, kindness, and acceptance through the slogan he created, “Treat People with Kindness” (TPWK), which graces a variety of tee shirts, the Pride version of which raised funds for GLSEN in 2018. Over the course of his career, Styles has repeatedly been questioned about his sexuality. During a 2022 interview with Better Homes and Gardens, Styles stated, “..the whole point of where we should be heading, which is toward accepting everybody and being more open, is that it doesn’t matter, and it’s about not having to label everything, not having to clarify what boxes you’re checking.” ANDREJA PEJIC is an actress and one of the most recognized transgender models in the world. She has been featured on the covers of numerous luxury fashion magazines, including Vogue, Elle, Vanity Fair, and more. Andreja is also an inspirational role model for the LGBTQIA+ community. Publicly announcing her transition in 2014, Andreja has achieved many ground-breaking milestones in the years following her coming out declaration, including becoming the first openly transgender model to be profiled by Vogue in May 2015, the first-ever trans woman to sign a cosmetics contract, being named "Best International Female Model" by GQ Portugal in 2016 and featured on the cover of GQ in 2017. In 2013, Andreja began to explore her interest in acting, and in 2018, she made her major film debut in “The Girl in the Spider’s Web”. More recently, she appeared in the 2022 film “The Other Me.” Currently, Andreja is working on her self-written and directed autobiography. In closing, let us remember Barack Obama’s written words when he proclaimed protection for the Stonewall National Monument in June 2016, “From this place and time, building on the work of many before, the nation started the march – not yet finished – toward securing equality and respect for L.G.B.T. people.” In continued support of this unfinished journey, Meloway Makeup will always be a welcoming and non-judgmental space where everyone can enjoy the freedom of self-expression in all its many forms through our game-changing makeup products.
